Physical Characteristic: This aerobic media is light purple in color with some white precipitants (salts).
Positive Reaction: A positive vial will show a color change from light purple to grey, green and yellow. It will also show the precipitation of more elemental sulfur (yellow to white precipitant) or sulfur-containing salts due to bacterial metabolism. TIP: Inoculating extra air every other day may accelerate the growth rate.
- Biotechnology Solutions’ Sulphur Oxidizing media has been designed to identify the presence of Sulfur Oxidizing Bacteria that could belong to the following Genera: Acidiothiobacillus spp., Thiothrix spp., Bacillus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Micrococcus spp., among others.
- After inoculation of your sample, please incubate our media at 28⁰C ± at 2⁰C. It could take from 1 week up to 4 weeks to show a positive result depending on the original concentration of your sample.
