Microbe ID Genetic Information

  • Most oilfield microbiology uses the most probable number (MPN) method which is obtained by performing a serial dilution in triplicate using bacterial growth. This is the most economical method and therefore, the most popular.
  • However, some customers require more detailed information about their bacterial population.
  • Molecular technology can yield more extensive information about a water sample’s likely bacterial profile. This is done by either qPCR or complete genetic sequencing.
  • BTS now offers these microbial identification services to complement our suite of oilfield microbiology products and services.
